There are many sounds
in the mountains
but
the most haunting one of all
is the bugling elk
and
His call
in the early morning
he doesn't hesitate
to make that haunting sound
out for his mate

with a chill in the air
as the sun begins to rise

it's in the mountains
that I realize

how small
and insignificant
I am
in the grand scale of things
and
how my heart still clings
to the mountains
and
the haunting sound
of the bugling elk

I'm a mountain man
thats pretty plain to see
a simple man
trying to be
the best
he can be

appreciating
the simple things
my heart does sing

to that haunting sound
of the bugling elk
and
the peace
the mountains bring.
