Grandmas kitchen

I remember the aroma
of grandmas kitchen
red beans and cornbread
still fills my head
fried potatoes
chow chow
garden tommatoes
she tended
with loving care
ice tea
pecan pie
prepared with love and a smile
her apron on
with old fashioned
flower print
never a hint
that it was work at all
as she smiled
and sang
an old gospel tune
looked like
she was having a ball
we always said grace
at table well prepared
mason jars
filled with honey
bounty
from her garden
and
fruit trees
as well
the aroma of grandmas kitchen
I can still smell
up before anyone
her day began before sunrise
I wake up to the smell
of home made bisquits
now I realize
how much
she had shown me
how much
she wanted me to know
when
she spoke of the Lord
she had a glow
the aroma of grandmas kitchen
where love flowed.
